Historically minorities have suffered from certain health and distinctive skin conditions. These conditions are uniquely aligned to their ethnic background and racial makeup.  However, today many are pre-disposed to other external influences that combined with lack of knowledge about specific health-related issues impacts the severity of these problems.  Many accept these conditions as routine and opt to live with these sometimes painful and often curable diseases.

Diabetes Management and Detection

  • Implication: Early Diabetic Screening and a Healthy Lifestyle
  • There are 23.6 million people in the United States who have Diabetes. While an estimated 17.9 million have been diagnosed with Diabetes, unfortunately, 5.7 million are unaware that they have the Disease.

Hypertension Management

  • Implication: Early Detection and Prevention for dialysis, stroke and heart attack
  • Lower stress, eat healthier and more exercise

HIV: Early skin finding and Detection

  • Implications: Early Treatment before AIDS occurs
  • Applicable for Third World Countries for testing

Weight Management

  • Implications: Treatment and Prevention of Obesity
  • The United States is one of the leading countries in Obesity, however, African Americans and Hispanics start gaining weight at a younger age due to diet, exercise and economic indicators.

Mental and Psychological Disorders

  • Implication:  Proper Diagnosis and Treatment
  • Depression, Borderline and Bipolar Disorders are just some of the illnesses that are undiagnosed and attributed to irrational and many times violent behavior.

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae (Razor Bumps), an international issue for men of color

  • Implications: Psychological and Physical
  • Prevention of razor bumps, razor rash, discolorations and keloids

Scalp Folliculitis in women (Hair Loss), significantly affecting AA women

  • Implications: Psychological and Physical
  • Due to low grade bacterial infection in the scalp leads to baldness

Skin Cancer: Bowen Disease, Melanoma

  • Bowen Disease: Early stage of cancer.  It is an intra-epidermal form of squamous cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma: Can lead to death
  • Check for unusual moles and nodules, etc.

Information will be delivered on a simple and direct method to explain the Disparities and the Treatment Options.  We will dispel myths and rumors that lead to ignorance and misunderstanding.

A  Board will be made up of professionals in the Business, Medical and Social Arena.

Health Providers will be recruited to make up a referral list of those who are well able and willing to provide outstanding care to those referred, no matter what their financial ability to pay.  A sliding scale will be established and Health Insurance used if patient is eligible.
